In yet another initiative to provide quality education to the people of this region, the Study Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was opened in the college in the year 1995. IGNOU was founded to serve the Indian population by means of distant and open education by providing higher education opportunities to all segments of society. It also aims to encourage, coordinate and set standards for distant and open education in India and to strengthen the human resources of India through education. Apart from teaching and research, extension and training forms the mainstay of its academic activities. It also acts as the national resource centre and serves to promote and maintain standards of distant education in India. Recently the university has implemented the CBCS method to the various Bachelor degree courses including BA, B.Com, B.Sc and other programs. As per the new CBCS provision the examinations will be conducted through the semester system which were earlier conducted on annual mode.
This Study Centre running in Govt College Unais the only study centre of IGNOU in district Una. It provides an important medium for those students who are unable to continue their study throughregular mode due to any reason. Inthis way many people from districtUna and even from the border areas of Punjab get benefitted of the IGNOU study centre 1109. At present there are about 1900 students studying through this study centre. The study centre is doing wonderfully well in the area of education under the dynamic guidance of its coordinator Prof. Deveinder K. Atlas, supported well by the Astt. Coordinator Prof. RakeshKaundal.
